First occupants of the 22 units on Putney Vale should move in within the next few weeks
Wandsworth Council leader Cllr Ravi Govindia opened a new housing development today as part of the Housing for All programme to deliver 1,000 homes for residents and local workers.
Paul Nicholls from housing contractor and developer, Wates Residential also joined Mayor of Wandsworth, Cllr Jane Cooper and Cabinet Member for Housing Cllr Kim Caddy, to mark the completion of work at Stag House, Stroud Crescent, Putney Vale, to deliver 22 new units.
The scheme is the latest addition to the council’s Housing for All programme, and includes 11 social rented flats, 10 flats for resident with a physical and/or learning disability and 1 warden flat.
Speaking at the event, Cllr Govindia said: “This is another demonstration of our commitment to build 1,000 new homes on our larger development sites, which will help people in the borough buy or rent a home that is right for them.
“Our Housing for All programme is well underway and we are confident of reaching our targets despite the challenges of the recent Pandemic and the difficulties of building in one of the most congested cities in the world.
“Our aim is to create a borough where everyone can make a home, no matter what stage their life is at.”

Cllr Caddy, Wandsworth’s cabinet member for housing, said: “We have already built 100 homes, and are on track to complete 1,000 homes by 2027. We are prioritising our homes for people who live and work in Wandsworth and I am delighted we are building attractive, sustainable, quality housing that will stand the test of time.
“We are doing this at a time when we need to do everything we can to support London’s economic recovery. This is why following the pandemic, the council agreed to redouble its efforts to build more housing with a further 2,500 homes planned over the next 10 to 15 years.”
Paul Nicholls, Managing Director of Wates Residential, said: “We stood on this spot back in February 2019 to mark the start of construction and I’m delighted to now be handing over the keys to our partners at Wandsworth Council.
“This development has been completed against some of the most challenging circumstances that we are likely to face in our lifetime, so I am particularly proud of our site team‘s commitment to delivering these essential homes, safely during this period. Everyone deserves a great place to live so, for those soon to move in, we hope this development offers them a place they are proud to call home.”
The development includes the retention of 27 car parking spaces alongside the games area, cycle and refuse storage and landscaping. Wates Residential also provided local jobs and training opportunities for local residents throughout the construction phase, including on-site apprenticeships, work experience placements and structured training programmes.
The Multi-Use Games Area is ready for the local community to use post- COVID-19. Independent charity, The Wates Family Enterprise Trust awarded a ‘Wates Giving’ grant of £1,200 to Putney Vale Residents Association to enable it to invest in Chelsea Football Clubs Premier League Kicks training project once the MUGA is available. They provide training and help hard-to-reach youngsters through sports participation.
The first occupants are expected to move in within two weeks.
