The 5th Putney Sea Scouts Fund Raising Day is on Boat Race Day
Some of you might remember Bob-a-Job Week when the Scouting movement had nationwide fund-raising activities with individual cubs and scouts often doing odd jobs in private homes, such as car washing and errand running, or organised events such as static bicycle marathons.
Safeguarding concerns have consigned Bob-a-Job Week to history but fund-raising is still essential for scout groups to maintain their head-quarters and subsidise camps and other activities.
5th Putney Sea Scouts are no exception and for many years their main annual fund-raising day occurs on the day of the University Boat Race. Their head-quarters are situated on the Thames tow-path beyond Putney Embankment on the Surrey side so perfectly placed as the boats appear from Putney Bridge and carry on towards Hammersmith Bridge.
Once again they will be setting up their barbeque selling hamburgers, hot dogs, tea, coffee and soft drinks so you are all welcome to join them, with vegetarian options as well, on what will be another historic day. They will have a limited number of tables and chairs for you use; and access to out toilets (for a small donation). There will also be home-made cakes for sale and even though they are not expecting rain there will be shelter in our scout hut.
They are also able to offer a signed England Rugby shirt together with a list of those rugby players who have signed it. There are some 53 in total, mostly England players (both current and aspiring) but also representatives from Argentina, Scotland, South Africa, New Zealand, Wales, Samoa, USA and England Women’s players. Look out for former England Captains Lawrence Dallaglio, Pat Sanderson and Chris Robshaw.
You can view the item on eBay by going to www.ebay.co.uk/itm/123031088114 where they are hoping for bids to start at £200.00. All the proceeds will go to 5th Putney Sea Scouts, registered charity no. 308260.
The 5th Putney Sea Scouts look forward to seeing you on Boat Race Day and meanwhile advise you to ‘Be Prepared.’
