A local charity is set to benefit from a year’s fundraising thanks to Sainsburys Putney customers and colleagues. Momentum has been chosen as Sainsbury’s new Local Charity partner for 2012/2013.
The announcement comes after the store asked local customers to which local charity they should provide a year’s support.
The partnership officially launched on 20th August 2012 and customers can now choose to make a donation in-store to Momentum, a local charity within Wandsworth and Kingston. Momentum was founded in 2004 and aims to help children (up to the age of 17) and the families of children, undergoing treatment for cancer in Surrey and South West London. Over the next 12 months, the charity will benefit from Sainsbury’s Local Charity partner scheme, now in it’s fourth year.
The store plans to launch the partnership by holding a ‘harvest festival’ encouraging customer donations of food & drink items to support Momentums respite ‘holiday home’. This log cabin was set up in 2008 to provide families of children with cancer to be able to get away to spend precious time together.
During the next 12 months, colleagues will be providing fundraising support for Momentum and raising awareness of the charity with the local community. Sainsbury’s Putney Store Manager, Jan Willoughby, said:
“Momentum is such a worthy local cause and we’re pleased and proud to be supporting it over the next 12 months. We’ll be letting our customers know of our fundraising plans in-store and we hope they can join our colleagues in helping support them”.
Nikki Howard of Momentum said: “I’d like to thank everyone at Sainsbury’s Putney who’s nominated us to be the store’s new Local Charity partner. I hope this partnership will raise awareness to new and existing residents about what we do and the impact we have in the community. We now look forward to a successful year working with the store’s colleagues on this exciting initiative”.
