Now waiting to be re-homed by RSPCA Putney Animal Hospital
The RSPCA is appealing for information after two kittens were abandoned in a shoebox at the side of the road in Wandsworth.
The five-week-old kittens were found inside a small shoebox in Saint Ann’s Hill on Sunday, 8 March, by a member of the public who thankfully spotted the cats inside the box.
The tabby and white kittens, one male and one female, were taken in by the member of the public who found them before calling the RSPCA for help.
Animal Collection Officer (ACO) Jade Guthrie, said: “The young kittens were found in a small shoebox on the side of the road in Wandsworth. Thankfully they were spotted by a member of the public who brought them home and transferred them to a bigger box with some blankets and towels to keep them warm before contacting us. I took the cats to RSPCA Putney Animal Hospital for a check-up and some care, which is where they are now.
“Sadly, we do receive lots of calls reporting abandoned animals to us and we are so grateful to members of the public who spot these animals in need and contact us. We understand that people’s circumstances can change which may mean they can no longer cope with their pet but there is never an excuse to abandon an animal in this way.”
The RSPCA is appealing for anyone with information about how these kittens came to be abandoned, to contact the charity’s inspectorate appeal line on 0300 123 8018.
The animal welfare charity rescues more cats than any other animal and sadly sees a lot of abandoned kittens who were an unexpected or unwanted litter and therefore given up. The RSPCA and other cat and vet organisations believe neutering cats from four-months-old will help tackle the problem and reduce the number of unwanted kittens being born who sadly end up in rescue centres.
