The RSPCA is caring for a Corgi dog who was found in a shopping trolley covered in newspapers and cardboard in Kensington High Street on Monday night (27 January).

The trolley Lloyd was dumped in

RSPCA inspector Phil Norman was called to collect the small dog which had been found by a member of the public. The dog, who has since been named Lloyd, was found at around 8.30pm outside the Lloyds Bank, just off Kensington High Street at the junction near Hornton Street.

Lloyd was wearing a vet cone around his neck and a sock on one of his legs when he was found, and Phil took him straight to RSPCA Putney Animal Hospital for a check up.

Lloyd’s legs and paws were red and inflamed with sores which may have been caused by him trying to lick and bite his irritated skin. He was also infected with mites. He has since been receiving treatment and medicated baths for his skin condition and staff at the hospital have all fallen in love with his little character.

Lloyd was not microchipped. He is described as an unneutered male, light brown and tan in colour with a white flash at the top of his head, and is thought to be around one year old.

Phil said: “When I arrived to collect Lloyd he was in a cardboard box hidden under newspaper and bedding inside the trolley, which was near to some phone boxes. He was wearing a vet collar and had a sock on one of his feet and his paws were red and inflamed. He was quite subdued, but a real gentle soul.

“There wasn’t a note left with him, and while we may never know the reason why he was left in a shopping trolley, I suspect he may have been left because he needed vet treatment.

“However, no matter what the reason - abandoning an animal alone and in a situation like this is never okay. If someone is struggling to cope there are lots of charities which run animal clinics and hospitals in London who could help if a person is struggling.

“Lloyd will remain in RSPCA care while he receives treatment for his skin condition. He’s a very sweet boy and has captured the hearts of everyone who has been caring for him at Putney.

“If anyone has any information as to who may have owned Lloyd we would ask them to contact me on the RSPCA appeal line on 0300 123 8018 “

He added: “We know that many people will be concerned about Lloyd and want to offer him a home, but we would ask people not to call the hospital about him. Once Lloyd has received all the necessary treatment he will be rehomed via one of our animal centres. If we get too many calls it can impact on people trying to contact us in an emergency.”
