Rosslyn Park Plans Major University Sevens Tournament


Club sees it as natural extension of existing schools competition

The Rosslyn Park University 7s will encompass both rugby and, in partnership with England Lacrosse, mixed lacrosse, and will take next year following the conclusion of the 84th annual National School 7s.

The schools competition is expected to involved 14,000 participants including nearly 2,000 girls and the club sees a university competition as a natural extension .

The new tournament will take place on Saturday 25 March, and will see students from across the UK and beyond competing in four competitions:

  • The higher tier Male Rugby 7s ‘The Cup’,
  • A second tier competition ‘The Festival’
  • A Female Rugby 7s competition ‘The Open’
  • A Mixed Lacrosse 6s ‘The Vase’

Rosslyn Park aims to combine the v best elements of the school tournament with a great sporting and social experience for the participants. So many past players will have the opportunity to take to the field with former teammates and opponents.

Adam Tyrer, Chairman of Rosslyn Park FC said, “It is exciting that we can announce this new tournament, welcoming back former alumni from the National School 7s and to partner with England Lacrosse to introduce a new sport to Rosslyn Park. Our schools tournament has gone from strength to strength with participation growing by 20 percent in 2023, so to add a further 1500 participants from the student cohort is a great achievement.”

Andrew Higgins, National School 7s Tournament Director said, “The Rosslyn Park University 7s and Mixed Lacrosse 6s brings together two great sports to the home of the National Schools 7s on Saturday 25th March 2023. Thousands of schoolboys and schoolgirls play at the famous South West London venue every year – the 6s and 7s offers the chance to relive the dream and #ReturnToRosslyn.”
