New Plans For Roehampton Regeneration On Display

As eight week consultation period for residents starts

New plans showing a range of ideas for regenerating the heart of Roehampton have gone on display in the area.

Local people can see the plans at Roehampton library in Danebury Avenue. They will be on display until Friday, July 25. The exhibitions display boards can be viewed on the council’s website. Residents can download the feedback questionnaire.

The exhibition will give local residents the chance to look at the latest proposals in detail and enable them to comment on the initiative.

The plans include a new modernised library, complete with café and community space, a new food supermarket with new retail units available for existing businesses and new purpose built accommodation for a youth centre, housing office and police office.

In addition the plans call for 281 new homes, each with access to shared communal open space, while each new family unit would boast its own garden. The council is investigating ways it could help existing tenants in the area buy homes in the new development.

The council's regeneration spokesman Cllr James Cousins said: "The council is keen to move things forward and get the ball rolling on the revitalisation of Roehampton. We believe that the area could be transformed with the provision of new shopping, leisure and living accommodation. But it is vitally important that we have the support of the people who live and work in the area. That is why it's important they visit the library, have a look at these proposals and then let us know what they think."

Representatives from the housing department and the council's economic development office (EDO) will be in attendance at the library exhibition at various times over the next 11 days to answer people's questions about the plans.

• On Friday, July 18, officers from EDO will be there between 10am and 2pm.

• On Saturday, July 19, officers from EDO and the housing department will be there between 10am and 2pm.

• On Tuesday, July 22, officers from EDO will be there between 10am and 2pm.

• On Wednesday, July 23, officers from both departments will be there between 3pm and 7pm.

• On Friday, July 25, officers from EDO will be there between 10am and 2pm.
