TfL Announces Roadworks In Roehampton Lane

Part of a scheme designed to ease traffic flows and reduce congestion in the area

The works will commence on Thursday, February 18 and will affect the section of Roehampton Lane between Clarence Lane and Roehampton High Street, where a new northbound traffic lane is being introduced within the existing carriageway.

In addition, the length of the bus stop at the junction of Roehampton Lane and Danebury Avenue is to be extended so that buses can stop safely at the kerbside. The existing traffic islands and road markings will also be modified to improve safety, which will require minor changes to some of the parking facilities.

Nigel Hardy from Transport for London said:
“We’re carrying out these essential improvement works as part of our £4bn Road Modernisation Plan. We are working hard to improve roads right across London and these works will ease congestion on the A306 carriageway, as well as create safer access to the local bus stop.

“We will carry out this work as quickly as possible to minimise disruption to local residents and road users.”

Some temporary traffic management measures will be put in place while these improvements are being made including lane closures and localised pedestrian diversions. During the resurfacing works Roehampton Lane will be closed in one direction at a time, between Clarence Lane and Roehampton High Street. Local access will be maintained during these works.

TfL says that diversion routes for northbound and southbound traffic will be via A205 Upper Richmond Road, A219 Putney Hill, A219 Tibbet’s Ride, Tibbet’s Corner Roundabout, A3 Kingston Road and vice versa respectively.

Bus routes 72, 265, 493, 969 and N74 will be affected by these works. Passengers are being advised to check at individual bus stops for further information.

The parking changes involve the removal of seven spaces in total to allow for lengthening of the bus stop and to ease traffic flows. Changes will be made to the operational hours of the parking bays between Kingsclere Close and Beech Close.
