River taxi stop for Riverside Quarter

and a fourth boat planned for 2008

The Putney to Blackfriars river taxi service now has a new stop at Riverside Quarter next to Wandsworth Park.

There are two services in the morning at 6.25am and 7.35am and three return services in the evening.

A high-speed catamaran will provide additional services from May at 8.05am and 9.05am. A fourth boat is planned for the end of the year.

Wandsworth Riverside Quarter Ltd is spending around £100,000 upgrading the pier to the private residential moorings. Other improvements include an electronic live departure board provided by Transport for London (TfL) and a notice board with timetables and tide times.

Further investment is planned for September, when dredging of the riverbed around the pier will enable the river taxis to dock at even the lowest tides. The dredging operation must wait until the autumn so as not to disturb the traditional spawning of smelt (a cousin of the salmon) in the Thames at Wandsworth.

Adrian Allworth of Thames Executive Charters said: "We are pleased that by working with the developers we have been able to add this extra stop to our west London service.  We have a new 55 seat high speed catamaran joining our service during May which should allow at 08.00 & 09.00 service to run from Putney also stopping at Wandsworth Riverside Quarter so expanding our operation further."
