Putney Prepares To Bid Farewell To Priest-In Charge


Ripon Cathedral has appointed Canon Ailsa Newby as its new Canon Pastor

Ailsa Newby is moving from Putney after 7 years as Team Rector in Putney to the historic Ripon Cathedral. Canon Newby, said: “I am excited at the prospect of joining the community at Ripon Cathedral but also sad to be leaving my many friends in Putney and the vibrant church life. Putney is a great place to live and Dick, my husband and I, have so enjoyed living here, with all that Putney has to offer in open spaces, shops, restaurants and lively community involvement.”

As well as her experience of working at a parish level, Ailsa is also an Honorary Canon at Southwark Cathedral and, based at St Mary’s, works as part of the Parish of Putney Team Ministry alongside Chris Eyden who remains vicar at All Saints. Ailsa added, ‘it is good to know the parish will be in safe hands until my successor is appointed with both Chris and our curate Laura remaining in the parish.

Ailsa's last service 10.00 am on Sunday June 18th at St Mary's.


Ripon Cathederal

The Dean of Ripon, Very Revd John Dobson, said:“We all look forward to giving Ailsa and her husband Richard a very warm welcome to Ripon Cathedral and the Diocese of Leeds. This is a crucially important role in the life of the Cathedral and city. Ailsa will be helping to lead our efforts to grow the Cathedral congregation numerically and spiritually, as well as overseeing our ministry of pastoral care.”

Her installation will take place on Sunday 25th June 2017 at 3.30pm at Ripon Cathedral.
