They want people to join the Executive Committee including a Treasurer
The Putney Society want you to get involved. They are currently looking for people interested in joining the Executive Committee, including a person with a bookkeeping/accounting background to be their Treasurer. This would involve only a few hours a month of your time which they are sure you would find worthwhile and interesting.
The Putney Society, a registered charity, is an amenity society founded in 1959 covering Putney & Roehampton. They are voluntary, independent, act entirely for the community benefit and are free of political or commercial influence. Current membership is around 900 households.
The society does a huge range of things – basically anything which will help make our area a better place to live. They hold around nine public meetings a year on a variety of interesting subjects; recent topics have ranged from “The Proposed Ultra Low Emission Zone Expansion” to “Modern Architecture in SW15”” via Birds of Richmond Park”! They are organised by the four Panels which meet monthly and perform the underlying work of the Society.
Recently all Panels have become actively engaged with other groups and the Council to ensure the implementation of Wandsworth Climate Action Plan.
The Society publishes a monthly Bulletin for members. Their website, putneysociety.org.uk, also covers their activities in detail and has back copies the Bulletin. Or follow them on Twitter, @PutneySociety, for current local issues and events.
The Society Executive Committee meets every month to discuss local issues and decide on actions recommended by the panels such as lobbying the Council, South Western Railway or TfL, holding social events and walks, and planting trees!
If you are interested contact the Chair, Robert Arguile, (chair@putneysociety.org.uk) or the Secretary, Carolyn McMillan (secretary@putneysociety.org.uk).
