Mayor Opens Lower School For Prospect House
Following renovation of former mental health hostel
The Worshipful the Mayor of Wandsworth Cllr. Mrs Angela Graham was the guest of honour last week to open officially the new Lower School building of Prospect House School.
The new building is very nearby the existing main school building, being just
slightly further down Putney Hill from it.
Formerly the Chellow Dene mental
health hostel, the building was sold to Prospect House by the London
Borough of Wandsworth in the spring of 2012 and has since been through a
total refurbishment programme to bring its educational facilities up to the
highest standards of excellence.
The younger children aged 3 to 7 are now
all housed in this new building, which has eight very airy classrooms,
ancillary rooms, a spacious hall, a commercial kitchen and large landscaped
grounds to the front and the rear.
The move of these younger children to this purpose-built new building has
freed up space in the existing main school building for the remaining older
children, who now have a refurbished art room and considerable extra
additional teaching facilities.
The Mayor (pictured right, below) said: "I am astonished and very pleased by the highly creative way in which
this building has been renovated and turned to school use. It is a delight
to know that local children in our borough will be able to start their
school life in such pleasant surroundings, at a school whose very recent
inspection report proves it to be at the highest standard possible.’
Mrs Dianne Barratt, headmistress of Prospect House School,(pictured above left) said: "We are extremely proud to have this new building. It has fantastic
facilities and is loved by the children and staff alike. There is so much
that makes this an amazing learning-friendly environment for the
children, while at the same time the technology in support of education
that has been incorporated is all state of the art.
We began to use parts of the building last year and the entirety has been
completed to time and budget in time for the start of this academic year.
She continued: "That proved at times to be quite a challenge and I should like to thank
everyone involved, especially our lead contractors Campus Construction
and our architects, Oliver West and John Scott, for the attention to detail
and for achieving our demanding timetable."
