based upon the local Safer Neighbourhood Teams....
On 12th February the Royal Parks Operational Command Unit launched a new style of community based policing to reflect the model in place throughout the rest of London.
Following on from the successes of Safer Neighbourhood Policing and the citizen focussed approach employed under this programme, The Royal Parks OCU have undertaken a major review of how we engage with our partners and how we deliver our high visibility and public reassurance community policing.
There will be a fundamental change in the way the PCSOs are deployed. In line with the Safer Neighbourhoods programme policing model, each of the six Royal Parks will now have a dedicated Safer Park Team. Each Safer Park Team will be headed by an Inspector and a Sergeant, who will have a team of two Constables and up to 10 PCSOs in order to engage with the community and solve local problems such as crime and disorder.
Each park will have a Community Panel, made up of people with a vested interest in their particular park, setting local objectives for the Safer Park Teams. The teams will also operate out of Hyde Park, St James Park, Regents Park, Greenwich Park, Bushy Park.
Inspector Craig Haslam, who has led the review of Community Policing structures within the Royal Parks OCU said: "The six new Safer Park Teams will provide a highly visible reassuring presence throughout London's Royal Parks. The new structure will allow us to deploy our Community Support Officers in a much more effective manner, engaging with our partners and park users to solve local problems and keep people safe whilst they use the capitals wonderful open spaces."
