From Putney to the Himalayas!

Putney firm Lalupate Gardening is running an exciting plant-hunting trek which will take place in the Annapurna range of Nepal in August 2013.

The goal is to gather native ornamentals, herbs and vegetables to stock Garden in the Himalayas, an innovative and educational charitable foundation with the aim of conserving native plants and improving the diet of local villagers.



Child malnutrition is still a problem in upland Nepal; rather than food aid, a more nutritious and varied diet of organically grown local produce will really make a difference. The Garden aims to work with local schools to make this a sustainable and educational venture.

Volunteers are welcome to spend a few days helping out at the garden in the village of Tanchok, near Pokhara, at any time of the year.

The plant-hunting trek will arrive at the sacred lake of Dudh Pokhari in time for the annual Full Moon celebrations, joining thousands of Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims. There is plenty of wildlife in this off-the-beaten-track region of Nepal, including tigers, leopards and black bear.
