Planning Permission for London Square Granted

12-storey redevelopment to contain 76 new flats

The London Borough of Wandsworth has granted planning permission for a 12-storey mixed use redevelopment of 113 Upper Richmond Road  next to East Putney tube station in south west London. The scheme, which will be brought forward by developer London Square, will comprise 76 new flats as well as 1,463 square metres of office space on the ground and first floors of the building. It will also have shops and a new public space. The office building currently on the site will be demolished.

The Council said in its decision notice that a mixed-use development on the site was "welcomed". It said that, although the reduction in office space was "in some respects regrettable", "the provision of an active frontage to Upper Richmond Road and a much higher quality of employment floorspace is considered to be acceptable".  The Council said that the developer would make a financial contribution of £500,000 for off-site affordable housing and that the development would be liable to a £1.7 million community infrastructure levy (CIL) contribution.

"London Square Putney is an outstanding new scheme in a sought-after part of the capital, which will transform the heart of SW15," said London Square chief executive Adam Lawrence according to reports.  "We now have a total of nine prime sites underway across the capital and Putney represents what all of our developments have in common - great architecture, thoughtful design and a fantastic location," he said. London Square has said it expects to start work on the scheme next month and to complete the scheme in 2015.
