Bendemeer Road Roof Extension Opposed by Neighbours

Plans to add a roof extension, roof terrace and external spiral staircase to a flat in Putney are being opposed by the property's neighbours.
A resident of Bendemeer Road, has applied to Wandsworth Council for planning permission to extend the existing two-bedroom flat, which is now split over two storeys.
According to a report submitted alongside his planning application, he wants to: "Construct a modest second floor extension to the property with appropriate internal and external works. The proposed alterations will provide further primary living accommodation and amenities for the occupants as their principal place of residence."
The report, prepared by Dorset-based Arkiplan Architectural, points out that neighbouring properties throughout the area appear to have been altered through extensions and enlargements.
It adds, "As a result of the planned works, the property will be upgraded to a higher level of energy efficiency, meeting all associated building standards that are currently in operation.
"The existing host property was originally constructed to meet the needs and lifestyles of previous generations. The proposal will allow for the existing property to meet the applicant’s current requirements and provide future generations to develop and grow."
According to the application form, the applicant wants work to start in August with a completion date in February 2025.
Six neighbours have been consulted about the scheme, which the report claims "has been designed to ensure that the occupants have sufficient access to their own private amenity space whilst respecting the privacy of neighbouring properties."
But two neighbours have written to the council to object to the application, stating they believe it would block light into their property.
They state that they think the proposed roof terrace, which they feel looks "out of keeping" with the area, would create issues of privacy and overlooking. The planned spiral staircase would also remove the privacy they have in their garden, they claim.
