Following concerns on the forum as to the opening date for the new local primary school, PutneySW15.com approached the council and Oasis Academy Putney.
Oasis have confirmed that their newest school located in Putney will be open to pupils at the beginning of term. A spokesperson for the company told this website:
"We are aware that there has been a delay in the programme but the contractor is working very hard to recoup this time.
"Our first day of term will be Wednesday 7th of September and our most recent admissions list from LB Wandsworth was at 39 pupils we expect further casual admissions before and after the opening".
A spokesperson for the council confirmed:
"That the school will be opening as normal at the beginning of the academic year as originally scheduled".
Bad weather was the main reason for the delay in build:
"Also one of the sub-contractors employed by the building firm went bust apparently. The delays relate much more the residential element of the development (ie what’s being built on the former nurses’ accommodation block at the back of the site) - rather than the school – and the developers are working flat out to make up lost time".
