Lidl Confirm Spring 2021 Opening for Putney Site

The much delayed opening of the Lidl store on Putney High Street now looks set for Spring of next year.

Having started construction in February after obtaining planning permission from Wandsworth Council to convert the former Halfords and Superdrug premises at number 66, it was originally hoped to start trading this autumn.

Now a spokesperson for the company has confirmed that it won’t be open for business until 2021.

Lidl is working with Sturminster Construction Ltd to develop the store which it says will create around 40 new jobs when opened. The fit-out works are expected to take another five months. The new store will have a 574m² sales area and will also feature facilities including an in-store bakery and parking for cars.

The opening hours given on the Premises Licence document (number: 2019/303953) are for the store to be open seven days a week from 7am to 11pm. It is not known if these will be the operating hours of the store when it commences trading.

Lidl GB’s Regional Head of Property, Henry Neel, commented, “There’s been much anticipation for this new Lidl store and it’s great that we are now in a position to start construction. We are extremely grateful for all the support that we have received so far, and would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding whilst we enter this next phase of the development.”

The new supermarket forms part of the company’s £1.45bn investment in its expansion across Great Britain in 2019 and 2020.
