Four fire engines and twenty one officers put out blaze in maisonette
A man has died after a fire broke out in a flat in Roehampton in the early hours of this morning (18 April).
Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers were called to the fire on Bessborough Road at 2.15am
The ground floor of a two storey maisonette was severely damaged by the blaze. The fire was under control by 3.47am. Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus found the body of a man on the ground floor but he was later declared dead.
Twelve people were evacuated by firefighters from adjacent maisonettes as a precaution.
Fire crews from Wandsworth, Fulham, Battersea and Richmond fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
