Putney’s Opposition To Towers Is Not “Noise”

Labour's candidate has criticised the claim by his Conservative opponent

Christian Klapp, Labour’s candidate in the Putney council by-election on 30th June, has criticised the claim by his Conservative opponent on the Putney
SW15 website that well-founded concerns about overdevelopment are “noise” that “we have to look through”.

The Conservative candidate wrote in his article on the Putney SW15 website on 15th June: “A lot of residents have raised concern over the number of big developments, and we have to look through the noise.”

Christian responded: “Residents feel incredibly strongly about the overdevelopment blight to Putney: rightly so. To have the thousands of objections Putney has made dismissed as “noise” frames perfectly the choice before Putney at the by-election in a fortnight’s time.

“The idea that Putney must continue to expand regardless of whether the area can cope with the additional homes and simply because there is
demand is wrong. This stack-em-up, pile-em-high mentality is what blighted so much of inner London during the 1960s and 1970s.

“The message being sent to Putney is: vote Conservative if you want to be ignored on over-development and many other issues they think they know best on. Or vote for me if you want a councillor who listens.”
