Thamesfield Cllr Mike Ryder share the wonders of The Gruffalo
Councillors can wear many different hats in their job, but children’s storybook reader usually isn’t one of them. However, lockdown has encouraged us all to get a little creative and Thamesfield Councillor Mike Ryder has joined other Wandsworth councillors to make videos of themselves reading children’s books from acclaimed children’s author Julia Donaldson, to help keep young children entertained during the summer.
Thamesfield councillor Mike Ryder, who took part in the Gruffalo readings, said: “It was an absolute pleasure to do it. Children robbed of the chance to go to school during the Coronavirus crisis have had a tough time, and I hope the Gruffalo video will help to cheer them up. It also brought back happy memories for me of reading bedtime stories to my own children.”

32 Wandsworth councillors from across the political spectrum have been filmed reading household favourites aloud in seven different videos which will be uploaded to the council’s YouTube and social media accounts. You will also be able to follow links from the council’s twitter account and the borough’s schools will be encouraged to tell children and their parents how to access them.
