East Putney to be Made Accessible with Lifts

Justine Greening MP updates us on news for commuters

Justine Greening, MP for Putney, Roehampton and Southfields, has got confirmation that East Putney tube station will now be fitted with two lifts to improve accessibility. It was originally thought that East Putney had only been earmarked for basic modernisation work, but following recent discussions between Ms Greening and Metronet (see Justine's last MP update) it is now agreed that the planned modernisation of East Putney station will now also include a lift.

Speaking about the new lifts, Justine Greening said, “This is really great news that East Putney, aswell as Southfields Station is to get a lift. I believe that our public transport should be open for everyone to use, so station accessibility is really matters. Previously, the station revamp planned was along the lines of what happened at Putney Bridge station - modernisation and redecorating the station. However, Putney Bridge station was not given a lift, so to be able to get one agreed for East Putney is fantastic.”

Other modernisation work to East Putney Station is due to be carried out at the same time and the current schedule estimates that construction work will begin in Spring 2008 with completion due 2009.
