Michael Foreman Opens New Classrooms

Granard School proud of new £1.9m classroom block

Local author and illustrator Michael Foreman opened the new Cedar Building – named after the magnificent 300-year-old Cedar tree, which stands in the school grounds.

At a cost of £1.9m the block houses eight classrooms, modern cloakroom and toilet facilities, a kitchen, staff room and also provides space for the school’s breakfast club and its after-school childcare and homework club.

The extra building allows the school to expand to a three forms of entry, which is part of a wider effort to ensure there are enough school places available in the borough for every child who needs one.

Education spokesman Cllr Kathy Tracey said: Granard is a great Putney school that has achieved some really excellent academic results and this new high quality school building will ensure that pupils have wonderful bright new modern classrooms to learn in.”

Granard is rated ‘good’ by Ofsted and was one of nine Wandsworth schools last year to have achieved near perfect scores in national phonics tests.
