Sharon Ferrell who has been Head Teacher at Elliott School has announced her resignation. In a letter on the school web site she said, "I will miss our students who I believe are a real asset to Elliott school and bring a diversity we can celebrate.   I would implore staff to recognise and respect this uniqueness, engage our students in the life of the school and maximise their potential."

She continued that she was leaving, "to enrich and support the experiences of young people and support other professionals in realising their vision for education"

Terry Clarke the Chair of the school Governors said, "Arrangements are in hand to appoint an interim headteacher until a substantive appointment is made for January 2010."   

Yesterday the teachers at Elliott voted to strike on May 7th following fears of compulsory redundancies and pay loss as a result of proposed restructuring of the school staff. The National Union of Teachers will be meeting the school on 1st May in an attempt to resolve the issues and stop strike action.

Cllr Tracey the Cabinet Member for Children and Young People's Services said, "It is a great shame that the teaching unions have called for strike action at Elliott. It is certainly not in the best interests of the school, its pupils or parents. We will be seeking further discussions with the NUT to try and avert this unnecessary industrial action." 

In the meantime the school is waiting for the latest Ofsted Report, which was delayed in publication. It is expected later this week at the earliest.
