Our Lady of Victories - an 'outstanding school'

"a stimulating learning environment in which pupils are able to blossom" Ofsted

During Ofsted's latest inspection in April 2007 the Inspectors found that standards were high and achievement outstanding.
Children begin school with average skills and by the end of year two standards are well above the norm.

Teaching is highly effective which means that pupils learn well and achieve high standards. Children are proud of the school and their behaviour is exemplary.

The school's curriculum was also rated as outstanding with pupils encouraged to think for themselves. French is taught throughout the school while pupils in their final year can study Spanish and Latin. There is also an after school club where children can discover Mandarin Chinese. Art and music are key strengths.

Overall the report judged the school to be outstanding. Parents' shared this view - 'a fantastic school with wonderful teachers' was a typical comment.

The inspectors praised the headteacher for her high quality, inspirational leadership and found that excellent systems were in place to provide rigorous monitoring of children's progress.

The school regularly scores highly in the national tests. Last year every pupil achieved the required level four in all three key stage two subjects of English, maths and science. The proportion scoring at the higher level five averaged 91 per cent - the fourth highest of any school in the country.

Headteacher Margaret Ryall said, "We try to make the school a safe and happy place where every lesson is interesting and enjoyable and children are motivated to succeed. With the support of our governors, parents and teaching staff we are constantly looking to improve. The whole focus of the school is on encouraging children to stretch themselves and achieve the highest standards."
