including flats above the hall
Architects have been asked to draw up detailed designs for the construction of a new Dryburgh Hall on land at Putney Leisure Centre.
A study has shown that the site could be developed to provide 56 apartments on the floors above the new community facility. Sixteen of the flats would be affordable homes for local people.
Cabinet member for environment and public services Kathy Tracey said:
"This is an imaginative proposal to provide a brand new Dryburgh Hall for people in Putney. The current facilities belong to the 1960s and are in desperate need of updating.
"The new community facilities would be designed to the latest standards for community halls and would have direct access to the leisure centre.
"We are looking at a modern design which retains the existing trees and gives a strong identity to the new hall. We want Putney to have a new Dryburgh Hall it can be proud of."
Further detailed work by architects Assael will be necessary before a planning application can be submitted. If the scheme proceeds the council would invite bids from developers for the project.
