GP's sign 21 year lease for 1,600 sqm on the Upper Richmond Rd
Earlier this week, Putney GPs signed a 21 year lease, securing 1,600 sq metres of Carlson House. Currently used as office space, this site is located in the centre of Putney, on the Upper Richmond Road. The move brings together Putneymead Medical Centre, Balmuir Gardens Surgery and Disraeli Road Surgery as well as the osteopath, physiotherapy and sports injury specialists from the Putney Clinic on Deodar Road. The proposed timetable is for spring 2011 when the Putneymead Medical Centre and Balmuir Gardens surgery will merge practices and jointly move into Carlson House, 266-276 Upper Richmond Road, Putney. In December 2008 Putneymead Medical Centre merged with the Disraeli Road Surgery to form one practice.
Wandsworth PCT assures us that the new location gives patients’ access to a full range of GP and primary care services all under one roof, whilst providing the space these services need to continue developing and meeting the future healthcare requirements of Putney residents.
Putney GP, Dr Sarah North says:
“This is a unique and exciting opportunity to bring a number of GPs and other primary care services together. Our extensive team, while working in partnership to enhance services, will continue to offer patients a choice of which GP and nursing staff they want to see. This will allow us to continue providing them with the ongoing experience of using a small practice, whilst reaping the benefits of a large medical centre with a wide range of extensive services and facilities.”
Chief Executive of NHS Wandsworth Amanda Philpott said:
“The transfer of three GP practices to suitable accommodation is the latest in a series of major improvements for primary care which have been introduced in Putney and Roehampton over the last few years. We are delighted that the search for new premises has proven successful and look forward to continuing our work with GPs to improve NHS services in the area.”
Only a short walk from the GPs’ existing locations, the new space will be redeveloped over the next nine months into a specifically designed, spacious modern environment for primary care. Spread over several floors, the accommodation with be fully Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) compliant and adhere to all NHS guidelines.
The new combined practice will continue to open between 8am and 8pm Monday to Friday as well as Saturday mornings. Guaranteed appointments will be available within 48 hours of request and the practice will continue to respond to urgent matters on the same day.
With suitable GP accommodation agreed, NHS Wandsworth has officially declared the old Putney Hospital site surplus to requirements and begun the process of disposing of the land. Under NHS Estate Code guidance, if NHS Wandsworth receives no declarations of interest from a priority or other public sector organisation within 40 working days, details of the site will be placed on the open market.
