Area has one of highest proportion of people carrying donor cards
Putney is one of the areas in the UK with the highest proportion of people carrying organ donor cards.
Only two areas in London appeared in the top twenty areas for registration for organ donation, with ninth place Putney just behind neighbouring Wimbledon. The nation's most generous area by this measure is Cambridge. There and in Bristol West more than half the population have signed up to be donors, the only two areas to have reached that level.
On 1st March 2016, the parliamentary constituency of Putney had a total of 42,036 registered donors (Wimbledon 43,623), with a total of over 19m donors in the UK. These figures were compared with the most recent population figures from mid 2014.
The Donor Card enables people to express their wish to become an organ donor. It is like making a will. By signing the 'Donor Card' you have agreed to organ donation.
The figures were revealed in parliament by Lord Prior of Brampton, parliamentary under-secretary of state at the Department of Health.
