Catch up with the Putney lads as they approach half way
The route so far
Out of May and into June; Theo, Will, Charlie and Jonno have now cycled roughly 3000km, crossed 4 countries and filmed over a hundred hours of video content.
They have made it to the Eastern Province of Zambia, staying in South Luangwa National Park in a place called Mfuwe, where they are basing themselves for the next week to film the conservation efforts of the local community for their feature length documentary.
In their rare moments of spare time, the boys have been busy keeping everyone up-to-date with interesting musings, observations, successes and challenges of the journey thus far...
What's your favourite time of the day and why?
Usually between 6 and 7 in the evening when we have arrived at our at destination. We sit round some sort of fire or gas stove and reflect on the day, write our diaries and discuss various moments.
How often are you able to shower? How are you washing your clothes?
We are showering once every 3 days if we're lucky! Best shower has been one that was heated by a fire in the back end of a border town guesthouse in Botswana.
What saying has been of most use to you?
‘To Hand’. There is a fine difference between having something, and having something to hand. IF the item is at or near the bottom of one of your ortlieb panniers, no matter how much that person needs it, you are not going rummaging for it! Thus the phrase ‘To Hand’ has become subject to much debate.
Are you able to listen to music as you cycle? Is there a song of the trip so far?
‘A change is gonna come’ by Sam Cooke
What has your biggest argument been about?
The only internal disagreements have tended to be with our stomachs!
What do you tend to think about as you cycle?
Whilst cycling through the parks in Botswana a lot of time was spent calculating the speed and distance we would need to go being chased by lions, or trying to remember the different ear movements of an angry elephant about to charge. Lately our minds have been turned to coming up with a new concept for a sci-fi film or thinking about the names of different trees, only to be brought sharply back to reality by something twitching in the bushes.
Can you give us one of your favourite photo from the last few weeks?
The photo of us sitting outside the shop. It was the end of the 150km day we did through elephant and lion territory, dehydrated and exhausted but still alive!
Do you miss any particular food/item from home?
Our dogs!
