A 21-year-old man from Putney has been jailed for two years and eight months after travelling 100 miles from his home to sexually assault an underage girl.

Daniel Savin had contacted an 11-year-old schoolgirl from Warwickshire and persuaded her to send him explicit snaps of herself. On her 12th birthday he sent her more obscene messages and arranged to meet her in a park near her home.

He had encountered the girl online, where she had implied she was 14 not 11, so Savin could not deny that he knew she was under age of consent.

Savin filmed himself sexually assaulting her, and met the girl three times before being caught out by the girl's older sister who spotted messages between them on a Kindle.

Savin handed himself into Twickenham police station where he confessed to a string of sexual offences.

Savin was jailed for two years and eight months at Warwick Crown Court on Thursday (10 October) after admitting grooming, sexual assault and having sexual activity with a child.

At sentencing, Judge Sylvia de Bertodano said, 'I have to bear in mind the very long-term effects this sort of thing has on children. The message must go out that if adults use the internet to meet vulnerable children and then arrange to meet them for their own sexual gratification, they must go to prison".
