Two Putney Men Held after Drug Raids

Half a kilo of cannabis found on Danebury Avenue

A police raid on an address in Danebury Avenue on Thursday 6th April has led to the arrest of two men and the seizure of half a kilo of herbal cannabis. The two men, who are aged 56 and 21 and live locally, were held for possession with intent to supply. They have been released on bail pending further inquiries until Sunday 4 June 2006.

A second raid in the Tooting area by the local Safer Neighbourhoods Team three days later led to two further arrests and the seizure of 1,000 cannabis plants and the arrest of two men for the production of cannabis.

This was a double strike for Operation Shield: An intelligence led operation to tackle drugs and associated crime on the borough. It launched in April 2005 and utilises the collective resources of Wandsworth police, Serious Crime Directorate, Customs & Excise and Wandsworth Borough Council.

Detective Sergeant Phil Tomlinson from the Drugs & Firearms Desk, said, “Following another successful week for Operation Shield I hope the message is starting to get through to the drug dealers of Wandsworth that we're going to keep coming after them. We rely heavily upon the public to help us with information and as long as they do, we will continue to make arrests, seize drugs and strip dealers of their assets.”
