Police Set Up Vehicle Checkpoint on Putney Bridge
Aiming to enforce Covid rules as well as catching uninsured drivers

Motorists crossing Putney Bridge in the direction of Fulham this Sunday (14 February) encountered a police vehicle check point.
Drivers were being pulled over into a coned off area to be questioned by officers.
The police say the exercise was in part to reinforce the message about avoiding unnecessary journeys during lockdown but such exercises have been regularly carried out to catch drivers with untaxed vehicles or no insurance. ANPR devices were used to check the status of vehicles.
The checkpoint was set up at around 9am with around 25 officers participating until it was removed later in the afternoon.
One Penalty Charge Notice was issued for a breach of coronavirus lockdown regulations with nine fines issued for motoring offences and three uninsured cars seized.
A spokesperson for the Met said, 'Officers from the Metropolitan Police Special Constabulary conducted an ANPR operation on Sunday, 14 February in Putney SW6.
'Vehicles were stopped under Section 163 of the Road Traffic Act.
'Three uninsured vehicles were seized. Nine Traffic Offence Reports (TOR) and one Fixed Penalty Notice was issued.'
