Ibrahim Meite accused of unlawful wounding

A 23-year-old man from Roehampton has appeared in court charged with stabbing another man in Putney last year.

Ibrahim Meite, a professional footballer, who played in the Championship for Cardiff City, and is currently on loan with a team in the second tier of Bulgarian football, pleaded not guilty in person at Kingston Crown Court this Monday (20 July).

He was charged with possessing a bladed article in public, wounding with intent and the unlawful wounding. The man he is accused of attacking 22-year-old Rio Amos was also charged with similar offences. He pleaded not guilty by video link.

On 12 September 2019 on Ulva Road, which links Ravenna Road and Burston Road, the two men became involved in an altercation.

It is believed that Amos was stabbed shortly before 10.42am and then left the scene in a white saloon car and was later arrested after being admitted to hospital. Shortly afterwards, police were called to Eastleigh Walk in Roehampton which is about a mile and a half away from Ulva Road to reports of a fight. When police arrived attended they found a man believed to be in his twenties, with stab injuries. He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital.

These events triggered a section 60 order to be put in place across the whole of Wandsworth and Barnes and Mortlake in Richmond until 2.45am on Friday, 13 September.

Previously the pair had been granted bail and they we ordered by the court not to have any contact with each other until a trial which is to take place in February next year.
