Man Dies Following Assault Near Putney Pub


Murder investigation launched following incident outside Duke's Head

A man has died after being injured during a fight near a Putney pub in the early hours of Sunday morning (9th December).

The police were called to reports of an altercation in the vicinity of the Duke's Head pub on the Lower Richmond Road at around 12.30am. They found a 46 year old man with serious head injuries. He was taken to hospital and was pronounced dead shortly before 6pm.

Next of kin are aware. Whilst officers believe they know the identity of the victim they await a formal identification.

Officers from the Homicide & Serious Crime Command are investigating and an incident room has opened at Lewisham under Detective Chief Inspector Graeme Gwyn.

DCI Gwyn said:
"We are appealing for anyone who was in or around the area of the Duke's Head pub in Lower Richmond Road after midnight that may have seen or heard anything, to call our incident room or Crimestoppers."

Detective Superintendent Penny Banham said:
"Local Safer Neighbourhood Teams will be conducting reassurance patrols in the area. Please speak to the officers if you have any concerns or were a witness to the incident last night."
