Tampered electricity meter had kept electricity bills low to avoid suspicion

At 12.41pm on Thursday, officers from Roehampton Safer Neighbourhoods team conducted a search of an address in Frensham Drive SW15 and found a number of cannabis plants.
Working in partnership with the Borough Intelligence Unit and neighbouring SNT ward officers entry was gained early on Friday morning.

The search of the address found that one of the bedrooms had been converted into a very professional cannabis factory, with two hydroponics tents, a nursery area, extensive ventilation systems and insulation.

Twenty cannabis plants were found in the tents & the tenant was arrested for cultivation of cannabis. On searching the address further officers found that the electricity meter had been tampered with in order to avoid paying the heightened bills. The electricity providers were called out to make the property supply safe.

The occupier has been bailed pending a charging decision from the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

‘The occupier had clearly gone to a considerable effort to convert his flat, I’m glad the team has managed to take it out of production.’

This was one of four recent warrants have resulted in four arrests, four cannabis seizures and an ongoing investigation. Two youths are on bail for possession of cannabis with intent to supply and a man in his forties is on bail for cultivation of cannabis and abstracting electricity following the discovery of a cannabis factory in one of his bedrooms.

‘The team has been working extremely hard to ensure that we act upon intelligence as quickly as possible and proactively target drug dealers and users in the Roehampton area.’
