Thursday saw a series of raids in Roehampton and other areas
Dawn raids took place at eight addresses - mainly in Roehampton, but also in Battersea and neighbouring Hammersmith and Fulham, following weeks of painstaking preparation work by detectives investigating youth gangs.
After compiling a list of addresses to target through detailed intelligence gathering and surveillance work, the raids culminated in the arrest of eight people and the recovery of a quantity of drugs and cash.
Detective Superintendent Gerry Campbell said:
"Today's operation has been a big success and it marks the start of a concerted crackdown on knife crime, robbery, drug dealing and violence involving young people and those with gang connections.
"We are absolutely resolute in our determination to make the borough a safer place and equally determined to identify, arrest and seek the prosecution of those who cause harm and suffering in our community."
Edward Lister Leader of Wandsworth Council added:
"The council stands shoulder to shoulder with the police in combating these criminal activities. We will be providing the police with our full support and putting all our crime fighting resources, including our CCTV network, at their disposal as they seek to build up a comprehensive picture of those people involved in drug dealing and violent behaviour.
"And our housing department will also be looking to take its own legal action against those involved in criminal behaviour who live in council-owned accommodation."
