thanks to a vigilant passer by
On 21 March 2009 a vigilant member of the public spotted three young males
by the bike storage of Thurleigh Court SW15 in the early hours of the morning
            and immediately phoned the police.

A fast response meant that the offenders who were attempting to steal the
bikes were all arrested at the scene with the items used to cut the chains and
the bike locks still in their possession.

All three males were questioned about the offence by the burglary squad and
admitted the offence, and have been bailed pending a decision by the Youth
            Offending Team.
This was a good example of Police responding to a call from a member of the
public who alerted Police in a timely fashion allowing the apprehension of the
            three youths.

PC Daniel Wray of the Burglary Unit said, ‘The vigilant nature of the member of the public, and the prompt actions of the
response team on duty meant that the three males responsible were arrested
swiftly and that the evidence available at the scene was seized and could be
attributed to the males. Faced with such evidence the males admitted the
            offence’
