Man receives serious eye injury after fight
British Transport Police (BTP) investigators are appealing for witnesses after a man received a serious eye injury during a fight at Putney Bridge LU station on Thursday 20 March.
The two men then became verbally abusive towards the victim and his friend and a fight broke out, during which time the victim was punched in his left eye, leaving him requiring hospital treatment.
The fight was stopped when members of the public and station staff intervened to break it up.
“We have spoken with witnesses and reviewed CCTV from the station,” said PC Carl Wayte, the investigating officer, “but we are also asking for help from any members of the public who may have witnessed the fight or who may have information that can assist our investigation.”
“This was a vicious attack on a man who was simply making his way home after a night out and I am asking anyone with any information about this assault to come forward.”
“We are working to trace any other witnesses and I ask anyone who was at the station at the time to contact police.”
Two 17-year-old men from Raynes Park, South London, were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm shortly after the incident. Both men have been bailed to return to BTP’s Central London Police Station, Whitfield Street, on Thursday 26 June.
