Raising money for mental health charities for those identifying as people of colour
Two Putney based women Phil Nowell and Johanna Thea are collaborating to raise money for mental health charities for those identifying as people of colour (POC) and black people by holding a monthly wellbeing festival called "Moving for Minds"
It is hosted on the second Saturday of every month with the next event on 14 November and runs from 9am to 9pm with three rooms: "Movement", "Wellness" and "Healing". The latter is exclusively for POC and those identifying as Black people, while teachers, facilitators, instructors and speakers not identifying as such are contributing their time voluntarily across the other two rooms.
One of the organisers Phil Nowell says, “In my work as an integrative therapist working with intersections of race, trauma and GSRD, my practice is dominated by those who identify as Black people or People of Colour (alongside these other intersections). My partner and many friends also identify this way. As a result of this I am very aware of the mental health impact of recent tragedies and the consequent upsurge of anti-racism rhetoric and activity.”
The festival has movement, wellness and other modalities to choose from - Dance, Nia Technique, Yoga, Somatic Awakening, Sound-bath, African Drumming and Dance, Meditation, Gentle Movement and more.
The sessions suitable for all abilities and no prior experience needed.
There will be three Festival Tents open and running throughout the day. You can book your ticket to get access to the Online Event Page which will have the programme and links you need for the day to access all the tents.
