She volunteers in the region and says, "The current strategy of the French and British authorities aims to deter people from seeking refuge in this region. This involves regular clearances, where French riot police (the CRS) confiscate personal possessions, sleeping bags, tents, blankets, phones and legal documents. Both refugees and volunteers are subject to physical intimidation, verbal abuse, illegitimate arrests, physical violence (including use of tear gas and pepper spray), abusive use of identity checks and detention".
