'Mr Benn' Pays Tribute to Queen Elizabeth

On Sunday night (18 September) along with many Putney roads Festing (aka Festive) Road observed the one minute's silence for our departed Queen.
Among the many householders who bowed their heads was the road’s most famous son, cartoon character, Mr Benn. He stood outside the one time home of his creator, cartoonist David McKee who would draw the road in every episode.
Even fifty years after its first showing the series still gets thousands of hits on BBC iplayer.
Mr Benn was played by retired journalist Hugh Thompson who has lived in McKee’s old house for 16 years.
He says, ”Mr Benn was a man who loved the various communities he visited, he saw the best in everyone, the moral of all his episodes is people should and can get on.
“He would have been the first to show his respect to the Queen who gave so much to the Nation as a community. Which is a reason why millions have felt the need to show witness.
"Of course since David McKee also died this year there was another reason for Festingers to bow their heads.”
