At the annual BAFTA interactive awards ceremony at London's Café Royal on Wednesday, 2 March, Peter Reynolds, of the School of Arts at Roehampton University, accepted two BAFTAs awarded to Stagework, the National Theatre's new performance-focused web site for which Peter is creative director.

The first award came in the factual category for the best use of digital media to deliver factual information; the citation described it as 'an accomplished and detailed treatment of the subject. It achieves both comprehensive coverage and impressive usability, augumenting and complementing traditional web features with rich media.'

Stagework won a second BAFTA in the learning category for the best example of
e-learning. The citation describes Stagework as 'a superbly stylish site, developing the educational potential of four productions. Stagework is beautifully designed with well-written content and plenty of depth.' (The four productions were Shakespeare's Henry V and Nicholas Wright's adaptation of Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials at the National Theatre, Beasts and Beauties, eight European folk tales re-told by Carol Ann Duffy, at the Bristol Old Vic, and Arthur Miller's The Crucible at the Birmingham Rep.)

Stagework.org.uk is directed by Peter and designed in partnership with the new media and television production company Illumina Digital. One of the first seven projects to be commissioned under the new government arts and education initiative, Culture Online, the site not only gives users an insight into the productions, people and processes of creating theatre, but also provides new learning and teaching materials for studying English, drama and citizenship in schools. The site contains photographs, designs, information, ideas, and video clips of plays in rehearsal and in performance.
