Putney Arts & Design Market Hailed a Success

Exhibitors and visitors give thumbs up to Putney's latest event

The market, is run by the council in collaboration with market operators SMT Management Ltd, included stalls selling watercolour and acrylic paintings, ceramics, glassware, jewellery, wooden furniture, stone sculptures, graphics, textiles, upcycled goods and photography.

The Embankment was packed with people enjoying the early summer sun and browsing the stalls. Youngsters were kept entertained by a free art workshop run by the Pump House Gallery.

Putney resident Kate Ironsides of art and design company www.pigeonsandparakeets.com said: “I had a great day and I made more sales than I was expecting, even selling out of some things. I was so pleased with how it went I've even started some new paintings for the next one. It's so helpful to have feedback on what people like.”

PutneySW15 members Nick Guilliford commented on the forum: "thought it was great and seemed busy throughout the day so sure will be a continued success. Only problem is my bank balance has taken a serious blow after my first art purchase from local artist Sim Hock which I'm very happy with".

Regular contributor Bunny Payne added: "Very enjoyable and certainly busy at around 1.30pm.  I hope this will be a regular market ... "

Photographer Kevin Lake said: “Selling for the first time was a fantastic experience. My commercial work with music means I rarely meet the people my work was intended for so getting to chat and in some cases sell to people who appreciate what you do is very exciting. I definitely intend to keep the market as a regular fixture and a new strand to my career.'

The market will be held on the first Sunday of the month on the Embankment between the Thai Square Restaurant and Thames Place. The next will be on June 1 from 10am-4pm.
