Putney Rower Has High Hopes for Henley Royal Regatta

Andrea Dimitrova of the senior women’s squad at the London Rowing Club in Putney, has high hopes for Henley Women’s Royal Regatta this weekend.

Originally from Bulgaria, Andrea now resides in London and juggles her professional rowing ambitions with her career as an area manager at the Amazon fulfilment centre in Dartford managing a team of more than 150 people.

She will be competing in the Henley Women’s Royal Regatta, the premier rowing regatta for women in the UK, with the hope of bringing home gold for herself and her teammates.

Andrea is sharing the story of her success on the water to encourage others in the community to fulfil their potential.

With a background in economics and business management, Andrea got her first taste of working for globally recognised businesses following her studies in Sofia, Bulgaria, and at the University of Nottingham in the UK. Through a range of internships and graduate roles throughout her studies, including the opportunity to establish a start-up company that won €200,000 of funding during her third year at university, Andrea was exposed to the inner workings of high-level management and strategic planning early in her career. These experiences combined to instil in her a passion to drive change and influence corporate governance for large organisations.

In 2017, Andrea relocated to the UK permanently and was headhunted for a place on an Amazon graduate scheme in 2021. She accepted the role, and within eight months has completed the programme and taken on a permanent area manager role at the fulfilment centre in Dartford. In her short time at the fulfilment centre, Andrea has already been twice recognised by her peers as manager of the month.

“My life is the epitome of teamwork,” says Andrea. “Whether I’m rowing or working, I am committed to ensuring the proper functioning of the team so that we can succeed. Being a good manager and teammate means recognising that you need to show up for those around you and work on your weaknesses, because you can’t win a team sport as an individual, regardless of whether you’re a top performer, and a workplace can’t function to its full potential without everyone being aligned and working towards the same goal.

“Having the opportunity to travel the world and gain experience in many fields of work has allowed me to understand just how important it is to lead with empathy as a manager, too. The team at Amazon in Dartford is amazingly diverse, so to make sure we work our best as a team, I make it my goal to meet each individual team member where they are so that they have every chance to excel.”
