Fact or fiction? Putney author Mike Harrison writes of the stark warning from history
"Just because no one wants World War 3 doesn't mean it won't happen" says Putney author and resident Mike Harrison. Mike spent 30 years at the heart of global financial markets. As he puts it: "‘I have seen the beast. That toxic nexus where power and money warp the best of intentions and fan the worst of them."
Mike Harrison
Mike has moved on from city institutions and has put pen to paper or fingers to keyboard to produce his debut novel 'The Pale Tiger'. Combining his experience of the financial world with political thrills and spills, the novel focuses on the politics of China and the US, and the opioid crisis - rather too close for comfort to todays news headlines?!
What is Operation Pale Tiger? The worlds of DI Anne Perry and MI6 agent Emma Wilson collide as they find themselves face-to-face with a murderous conspiracy that threatens to engulf the world in conflict.
Who is The Ringmaster? Can the world step back from the precipice of war? Two lucky members can find out for themselves when they win a signed copy!
PutneySW15.com has two signed copies for members to win. Email your answer* to editor@putneysw15.com by noon on 5th August. * Please include your address for delivery of the book |
Mike loves living in Putney - what's not to like we ask - Mike told this website: "Putney-on-Thames, it’s definitely got something. People who move here stay here - twenty three years and counting in our case. That’s why it feels like a village - over the years you get to know the people, the faces, on the street, out-and-about, in the shops and the pubs. And you’re close to nature here. There’s the river of course - nature-in-motion - and the green spaces, the trees lining the streets. You really get a sense of the changing of the seasons. And you’re only fifteen minutes from Waterloo!
With twenty three years in SW15 what are Mikes favourite places?
"Putney Reach on the weekends, all those new food and drink stalls that have popped up the last months - great place for a stroll and a snack."
And for some recommendations:
Best takeaway coffee: Nordic Living on Lacy Road.
Best sausages: ’Spicy Italian’ from Parsons Nose butchers on the Lower Richmond Road.
Best bread: the ‘Putney’ loaf from The Bakehouse, just opposite the Post Office on the Upper Richmond Road.
"
I’d also give a shout-out for the Spotted Horse pub on the High Street, it’s had a stunning make-over from what it was and is now a great spot for a meeting, a coffee or a drink."
