King Street Closed by Thames Water Till Start of Next Week

Closure from Broadway to Bridge Avenue follows discovery of two new leaks

Work by Thames Water in King Street Hammersmith

Thames Water say on their Twitter feed @thameswater that they have now located the latest leaks which have once again led to the closure of Hammersmith's King Street.

The street was shut yesterday, 20 February between Hammersmith Broadway and Bridge Avenue after discovery of the new leaks under the road near Marks and Spencer.

On Wednesday Thames Water's update says: " Work to repair two leaks on King Street is ongoing. While we appreciate that closing a section of this road is frustrating, it’s essential that we act to reduce the potential of future flooding.

"We’ve located the leaks and our engineers are now digging up the road surface to access the pipe and start the repair. We expect this work to last until the beginning of next week and we’ll keep you updated on our progress."

Eastbound traffic in King Street heading to Studland Street is not affected. However, buses that normally run westwards along King Street are being diverted via Shepherd's Bush Road.

The new closure is in addition to Thames Water's work on King Street repairing the road surface following last month's burst water main which caused major flooding.

This work is scheduled to last for two to three days during this week, with temporary traffic lights installed to manage the two-way traffic flow.

Meanwhile Goldhawk Road, which also suffered severe flooding after a major burst pipe, is still closed near the junction with Hammersmith Grove.

The damage is more extensive here than at King Street and Thames Water expect the repairs to last until 3 March. Thames Water has now reopened Hammersmith Grove to northbound traffic only. On reaching the junction with Goldhawk Road, traffic can ONLY turn left (westbound).
