Closure on North End Road Expected to Last for Six Weeks |
After new sinkhole appears on crossing at junction with Shorrold Roads Excavation works on North End Road to discover the cause of a new sinkhole are scheduled to last for six weeks, until Monday 2 March. The sinkhole - the third to open up within yards on North End Road - appeared on Saturday in the centre of the pedestrian crossing at the southern end of the road, linking Walham Grove and Shorrolds Road. Now barriers have been erected and excavation is underway, resulting in what Transport for London describes as "a large void" in the carriageway. Motorists are being forced to divert via surrounding roads and bus routes 28 and 306 are also on diversion.
Fulham Broadway councillor Ben Coleman tweeted @BJ_Coleman: " Fulham Broadway councillors have asked council officers to fix this sink hole and reopen North End Road as a priority." In April 2015, a sinkhole appeared just a few yards away from this one in the pavement on the west side of North End Road.
