Rod Liddle RIP

Very sorry to see on the news today that the journalist Rod Liddle has just died. I enjoyed his Sunday columns in The Times.

We’ve left the EU haven’t we Denis?That’s what the majority voted for and, after some opposition from people who didn’t want the referendum result implemented, got.The democratic outcome of the referendum prevailed, for better or worse depending on ones point of view.

Rod Liddle, the antithesis of woke, wrote a very interesting book seven years ago titled "The Great Betrayal: The True Story of Brexit".I purchased it from Amazon as Waterstone's of Chiswick refused to stock it.It was factually comprehensive, and put everything into context, furthermore slating our undemocratic ruling establishment conniving to undo the people's will.Vintage Rod Liddle.

He doesn't appear to have been a very nice person but I can forgive that if what someone writes is interesting and intellectually provocative which he certainly did at one point. However, my feeling was that for the last decade he was provocative for the sake of online engagement and therefore ceased writing stuff that was interesting.

I shall miss his columns. I'm seeing a lot of abuse of him on social media, presumably from people who don't get the concept of 'tongue in cheek'.

Very much a loss in the journo world.Never agreed with all he said, but he had a knack of talking at a pace on TV that he got all he wanted to say in within the time slot, but at the same time you kind of got an explanation, a meaning to what he was saying at the same time.

He was "only" 66 - gone too soon. I wondered why his Sunday Times column had been missing in recent weeks. He was always entertaining and controversial, in a humorous way.
