Once upon a time out in the west there was a police station which was open all hours and the public could hand in found keys, spectacles, jewellery, walking sticks, scarves, hats and lots more besides. They could also report crimes. The officers who worked at the police station often came off their computers and took a stroll outside, maybe just to buy food but they provided a presence, much to the approval of the local residents, but not so much by shoplifters, phone snatchers, and those up to no good.Residents felt safer, and many got their keys back.
