Community Protection Warnings and Notices

Hello everyone, We hope it is ok to launch our new campaign here regarding the use of Community Protection Warnings and Notices (CPW’s & CPN’s)📢 New Campaign: Reform Community Protection Warnings & Notices (CPWs & CPNs)Demand Oversight. Demand Fairness. Demand the Right to a Defence. We are launching a national campaign calling on the UK Government to urgently reform the Community Protection regime under the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.Under current legislation, Community Protection Warnings (CPWs) and Community Protection Notices (CPNs) can be issued solely on the subjective judgment of a single officer—without any requirement for evidence to be tested, and without giving the accused person any opportunity to defend themselves. This lack of due process breaches the fundamental principles of natural justice and enables serious misuse.⚠️ What’s Going Wrong Now • Authorities are not legally required to hear the “other side” before issuing a CPW or CPN. • Notices are often served in complex neighbour disputes, where victims of harassment or antisocial behaviour are wrongly treated as perpetrators. • CPWs/CPNs can lead to the withdrawal of safeguarding support, leaving vulnerable people isolated, unheard, and unprotected. • There is no statutory right to appeal a CPW, allowing it to escalate unchecked into a legally enforceable CPN.These powers were meant to tackle genuine antisocial behaviour—not to be used as a shortcut that bypasses fair investigation.⸻📌 Join Our CampaignWe have launched a dedicated campaign page, group, and two petitions calling for urgent reform:Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/share/1GZdjtUwLN/Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/share/g/18gMSVbUGy/UK Government Petition: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/767031/sponsors/new?token=oi3oGqqkEoUvJnpsqopVChange.org Petition: https://www.change.org/p/review-the-anti-social-behaviour-crime-and-policing-act-2014⸻📣 We Are Calling For Five Key Reforms1. A Mandatory Right of ReplyIndividuals must be shown the evidence and allowed to respond before any CPW or CPN is issued.2. A Statutory Right to Appeal CPWsWarnings should not escalate unchecked into criminal consequences without independent review.3. Judicial Oversight for CPNsNo CPN should become active without scrutiny by a court or truly independent body.4. Mandatory Evidence StandardsOfficers should be required to verify allegations using independent sources (e.g., CCTV, neutral witnesses), not untested hearsay.5. Safeguarding ProtectionsAdministrative notices must never trigger the automatic withdrawal of support from vulnerable people.⸻✔️ Why It MattersFairness, transparency, and accountability are not optional—they’re essential. No one should face sanctions, stigma, or loss of services without a basic right to defend themselves. The current system allows power without oversight. Together, we can change that.✊ Join us. Share this campaign. Sign the petitions. Demand fair and lawful reform.
